What is a settlement video?

In civil litigation, settlement videos are documentaries that tell your client's story. They are shown during mediation to help increase the value of your case. These films show defense attorneys and insurance adjustors what they stand to risk at trial. They help your case settle faster and for more money.

Imagine
Netflix making

a documentary about your case

Jon's films have aired or streamed on the Sundance Channel, PBS, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and more. Settlement videos are produced like many of the documentaries that you see on streaming platforms like Netflix. We start by interviewing your clients and their family members, usually in their homes. This interview footage is then edited together with your client's pictures and videos to create an evocative, high-end video product that will signficantly increase the value of your case.

WHO IS JON MATTHEWS?

Jon grew up in rural West Virginia. He practiced law for seven years and won a case in front of the West Virginia Supreme Court, before deciding to follow his dream of becoming a filmmaker.

In 2009, Jon was accepted—with a full-tuition scholarship—to NYU's graduate film program, which many consider the world's top film school. While at NYU, Jon worked as Spike Lee’s teaching assistant. Spike Lee awarded a production grant to Jon for his documentary, SURVIVING CLIFFSIDE, which premiered at the 2014 South by Southwest Film Festival and was licensed by the Sundance Channel.

Jon’s next film, a narrative feature called BLACK DOG, RED DOG (2015) was co-directed by James Franco and starred Olivia Wilde, James Franco, and Oscar-winner Whoopi Goldberg.

Jon then went on to direct KHALI THE KILLER a crime drama which was released by Sony Pictures and produced by the studio that makes the LONDON HAS FALLEN and ROCKY franchises.

Also in 2018, Jon co-produced HILLBILLY a documentary about the perception of Appalachia. This film won the jury prize at the Los Angeles Film Festival and was long-listed for Academy Award consideration.

Jon also wrote and directed for three seasons of SESAME STREET, including segments like Big Bird's Road Trip and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck.

Jon is currently producing a documentary on an unhoused community in California. He lives with his two-year-old son, Wyatt, in Los Angeles.
